On 21–22 October 2026, Semmelweis University in Budapest hosted the first edition of the international scientific conference EV4 – Extracellular Vesicles Visegrad Conference, which brought together more than 150 scientists and experts specialising in the research of extracellular vesicles.
The conference was held under the auspices of the Hungarian Society for Extracellular Vesicles (HSEV), in collaboration with the Czech Society for Extracellular Vesicles (CzeSEV) and the Polish EV community. One of the partners and co-organisers of the event was the Slovak Society for Extracellular Vesicles (SlovSEV).
Its chairwoman and researcher at the Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (BMC SAS), Dr Zuzana Vince Kážmérová, was involved in the preparation and organisation of the conference.
“Extracellular vesicles are natural nanocarriers that mediate the transfer of biologically active molecules and information between cells over both short and long distances, thereby playing a significant role in the regulation of physiological and pathological processes. Research into them is extremely important not only for a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms of intercellular communication and the pathogenesis of various diseases, but also for their potential use as non-invasive biomarkers that enable early diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression. At the same time, they represent a promising tool for the development of new therapeutic strategies, including the targeted delivery of drugs, as well as regenerative medicine,” explains Dr Kážmérová.
The EV4 conference featured presentations of the latest scientific findings, expert discussions and new opportunities for international collaboration. Lectures by renowned experts Kenneth Witwer and Wolfgang Holnthoner also made a significant contribution.
The event represents an important step towards strengthening cooperation between the scientific communities of the V4 countries and other European partners.
