The BMC SAS Clinical Research Unit is a unique facility within the SAS that serves the needs of biomedical research. It enables scientific studies to be conducted in the field of human medicine. We draw on more than 40 years of tradition in clinical research in the fields of endocrinology, diabetes, stress, autoimmunity, cardiovascular and autonomic nervous systems at the founding institutes of BMC SAS. We are a healthcare provider under Act No. 578/2004.
The research clinic has two specialized outpatient clinics at its disposal, as well as an institutional care facility with two beds. Research focuses primarily on obesity, metabolic, cardiovascular, neurological, and autoimmune diseases. Methods used include insulin clamp, indirect calorimetry, ergospirometry, orthostasis with continuous recording of cardiovascular parameters, the Valsalva maneuver, tissue biopsy (fat and muscle), microdialysis, social stress, and others. Following the collection of various types of samples, it is possible to use analytical methods available within the BMC SAS.
