BSL3 laboratories specialize in experimental work with highly dangerous pathogens classified as biological agents of group 3 within the meaning of Slovak Government Regulation 83/2013 Z. z.. These include, for example, tick-borne encephalitis virus, West Nile fever virus, hantaviruses, rickettsiae, and SARS-CoV-2. It consists of a highly protected laboratory and state-of-the-art animal facility for small laboratory animals. All units are equipped with laminar boxes, incubators, autoclaves and other necessary instruments for research in virology and rickettsiology. BSL3 also provides spaces for a part of the European Virus Archive.
